‘Shine This Night’ was composed for Victor Johnson and the Fort Worth Academy of Fine Arts Academy Choir; the text and music were written concurrently. The song describes the sights and emotions I feel when I go out late at night to look up at the big Texas sky, especially in the summer. I always marvel at how warm it is where I stand, but how very cold it must be up above; I also wonder at the million points of light that are incredibly far away, yet pierce the darkness with their glow. Perhaps the answers to the questions in our hearts are to be found amongst the stars.
